Aloha Mai Kākou,
Mahalo for your interest in our new Hawaiian Language and Culture Class.
I am Lei Ilae-Kaleimamahū and will be teaching this new class.
Here at Hua ʻ, Āina we focus on environmental wellness, self-awareness and the Hawaiʻi landscape.
Understanding the ʻōlelo ʻōiwi (native language) will give great insight into the Hawaiʻi landscape and form better connections to our environment both in Hawaiʻi and elsewhere.
The beginning Language Classes will cover basic grammar and structure to get you started on speaking Hawaiian.
These include:
- Sentence structure
- Basic words and their use
- Hawaiian language and understanding a perspective of Culture
- Relationship of Oli Mele (language) to a landscape
- Celebration of important life experiences through language and culture
The format of the class is dynamic and we will use different components to get you started in USING the ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. The class meets once a week on Sundays from 9 am-10:15 am on Zoom. The class is built in seasons, what that looks like is learners come in and stay for a season (February to May). for 4 months. Tuition is $125 a month, with the first two months due at the time of registration for February and March. The April and May months will be billed at the beginning of April. These four months are considered a SEASON.
After the season, learners can continue, if they would like to continue. As a basis for learning, we invite our learners to the full season to get the learning and patterns down.
The class will also emphasize the cultural connections and implications it has to live in Hawaiʻi or be a visitor or even learning some basic Hawaiʻi knowledge.
If you are interested, please register below and we will see you in class. All information will be sent to your Gmai. IF you donʻt have a gmail, please acquire one below.
